Recommended language for manuscript contracts

When faculty and professional staff publish scholarly works, they are often asked to sign contracts or agreements with the publisher. We recommend that faculty read these agreements carefully. It is particularly important to ensure that the author reserves the right to continue to utilize the work at the University of Kansas. Therefore, we suggest that authors add the following statement to their manuscript contracts:

"Notwithstanding the above language, I reserve the right to use this work in my teaching and research, for my colleagues at the University of Kansas to use this work in their teaching and research, and I also reserve the right to place an electronic copy of this work on a publicly accessible web site."

Addendum to Authors' Publication Contracts -- A simple form that authors can attach to their publication contracts to reserve rights for depositing in a local repository or posting on a website. Approved by the KU General Counsel.
